Riley Triumphs at Handmade Upmarket

I had a wonderful turn at Handmade market in Canberra, selling all three books - Riley and the Dancing Lion was a triumph. Beijing Tai Tai and Riley and the Sleeping Dragon also did well, and it was an utter pleasure to share signing responsibilities with my fabulous new illustrator, Kieron Pratt.

See my blog entry for more.

Canberra Weekly Article on the Writer in Residence Programme

Huge thanks to the Canberra Weekly for featuring a wonderful story on my Writer in Residence programme wwith Caroline Chisholm School Junior Campus, Canberra.

The course took 42 children aged between 6 and 12 through the entire book writing process, from creative conception through to publication and launch. The books were modelled on my own book - Riley and the Sleeping Dragon - featuring black & white photos of Caroline Chisholm School as well as gorgeous, brightly-coloured drawings by the children.

It was a proud moment watching those kids come and collect their very first print-run, in front of friends, family and peers.

Well done, kids! Australia's youngest self-published authors.

Handmade Market launches Riley and the Dancing Lion

Friday 20 November 2009, 5pm - 9pm
Saturday 21 November 2009, 10am - 4pm

at Yarralumla Woolshed

Before Riley and the Dancing Lion is even officially launched, I will be appearing at Canberra Handmade Upmarket to showcase and sign all three of my books.

Huge thanks to the gorgeous Julie Nichols for finding a spot for me - it will be a thrill to unofficially launch my book to the local Canberra market. The Spring Bloom market was incredibly successful, achieving over 10,000 shoppers in a single day. Amazing. And it's no wonder - this is some absolutely stunning market with breathtaking wares.

Be there or be lacking in fabulousness.

Writer in Residence Book Launch

Wednesday 4 November 2009

Caroline Chisholm School

11am

After an intensive 16 session course, it is with enormous pride that we announce the launch of 42 magnificent 'published' books by students at Caroline Chisholm Junior Campus here in Canberra.

These books have turned out beyond my wildest dreams. Children aged between 6 and 12 created, wrote, illustrated, designed and published their books. They also learned about ISBNs, barcodes, publishing information and library data, and even learned how to promote, market and distribute their work.

The launch will feature students, parents and representatives from the Education Department, Children's Book Council of Australia, Early Education Australia, as well as media presence.

I am in awe of these children. Congratulations to everyone!
